I wanted my wedding to have a lot of personal touches to it. Like everyone else, we were on a budget, so we had to decide what was important to us to spend money on and try and make a lot of things. The wedding and reception kinda had a theme of a garden/vintage party. My mom and I came up with a lot of the decoration ideas ourselves. She found an old fence door on the side of the road, cleaned it up, and hung it above the cake and we hung “love beads” and candles from it. We made about 160 little potted plants of succulents and spent a lot of time trying to make the pots look weathered and mossy. We wrapped Christmas lights around branches to hang from pipes at The Loft above the dance floor. We even had an old typewriter for guest to type us a note. I wanted things to be fun, personal, and a little unusual…not your typical white…everything. We decided to save money and make our invitations.
The Wedding was really special because I had my dad officiate. He was still able to walk me down the aisle, give me away, and perform the ceremony. I think it was a little tough for him because I’m the only daughter and the youngest, but he did a great job! Surprisingly we both made it through the ceremony with no tears! We had friends the day before and the day of the wedding gathering flowers from different peoples gardens to make the bouquets and flower arrangements. We took pictures before the wedding and I’m so glad we did! It took away some of the anxiety and anticipation of people seeing me. Our photographers were great! They were a lot of fun and easy going. I had done a few shoots with them before (engagement, bridal, and trash the dress—different wedding dress) so that made it easier and more comfortable. The wedding planning process was so much fun and I was never really stressed out. I had a great time planning with my mom. It was definitely one of the greatest days of my life and I will cherish it forever.
